Win a visit from the winner of Canada Reads

Terry Fallis, author of The Best Laid Plans, could come to visit our group. How? If we enter (always a good prerequisite) and win (by random draw) a contest sponsored by the CBC’s Stranger Than Fiction. Check out the website:

http://www.cbc.ca/books/canadareads/2011/win-a-visit-from-terry-fallis-rules-and-regulations.html

Numerous book clubs have already submitted requests which are to appear in the form of comments on the appropriate page on site. The request is to include why a group should be chosen and what Terry would be asked about if he were to attend a meeting.

For a bit of fun and to be a little different, I penned a poetic request:

A visit from Terry would be simply grand

We’d roll out the carpet; we’d strike up the band

We’d ask about podcasts, rejection and pain

Redemption and tension as we’d ascertain

The life of a writer – the life we would lead

If we could get published, if we could succeed.

A book club? Well, no, we’re writers (we think)

We meet every week, our group’s Writers” Ink

We’ve chatted by Skype ‘cuz we’re way out West

But an author in person? Yes, that would be best.

So Fate, you cold finger, please make it your mission

To point to this plea and choose our submission.

We know about “random,” but here’s our petition –

Please randomly draw this poetic submission.

I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE LAST TWO LINES SO HAVE OFFERED A CHOICE. DO YOU HAVE A PREFERENCE?

Individuals are allowed one entry each. Please consider sending one in on behalf of the club.

Enjoyed your poem request, Jock. Very well written. I like the second two lines asking them to “randomly draw” the best, but either one works fine. Thanks for taking the time to write this piece for Writers’ Ink. Carol
