Know Your “Why”
Andy’s presentation will have two parts. Each part will influence virtually every part of your writing process.
Part 1 – “Why I Write”
Some of you already know why you write and your process already reflects that. Others only know they
want to write, but don’t have a good understanding of why. Still others had one reason to write when
they started and have evolved into other reasons.
Part 2 – “What I plan to do when I’m done with it and why”
What ever reasons you have to write will probably influence what you want to do with your precious gift
to the world once you’re done with it. These kinds of decisions will also influence what and how you
write.
Andy will go through things like audience, personal growth, finances, marketing, e-books, traditional
publishing, local printing, print-on- demand, book tours, social media, as well as the expectations our
readers might have and the ones we have ourselves. All these factors both shape and result from the
“why” questions above.- May 1st
Patsy Glatt – May Learning Tuesday
This Learning Tuesday we’re going to dive into point of view as one of the key solutions to all your narrative problems. While most of us are familiar with the concepts of First, Second, and Third Person points of view, not all of us know how to use point of view to up our storytelling game. I’m going to invite you on a journey of discovery that I’ve been taking as we explore how the choice of point of view, perspective, and narrative distance affects the stories we tell and our readers’ experiences of those stories. We’ll also investigate how an understanding of point of view can help us balance showing and telling, utilize description for more than just laying pipe, clarify character goals, and raise the personal stakes of our stories. Come prepared to write and share.
