Join us in the Coconut Room for an evening of literary bliss with Thistledown Press authors Rea Tarvydas and Lori Hahnel. Rea will read from her much anticipated and hot-off-the-press collection of stories, HOW TO PICK UP A MAID IN STATUE SQUARE, while Lori will delight us with selected readings from her growing list of acclaimed books. Both authors will be pleased to answer your questions and sign their books, which can be purchased at Sunworks. We guarantee an intimate ambiance, delicious snacks, and literary enlightenment. A cash bar is available.  

Rea Tarvydas:

The stories in Rea Tarvydas’ new book, HOW TO PICK UP A MAID IN STATUE SQUARE, follow the lives of expats living in Hong Kong as they come under the rich and exotic spell of what has been called the “most thrilling city on the planet”.

Rea lives and writes in Calgary. Her stories can be found in a number of leading literary journals, and her work has been nominated for a National Magazine Award. Rea is the winner of the 2012 Brenda Strathern “Late Bloomers” Writing Prize, curated by the Calgary Foundation and presented at Wordfest.


Lori Hahnel:

Lori Hahnel is the author of two novels, LOVE MINUS ZERO and AFTER YOU’VE GONE, as well as a story collection, NOTHING SACRED, which shortlisted for an Alberta Literary Award. Her work has been nominated for the Journey Prize three times and has appeared in over forty publications in North America, Australia and the U.K., including Joyland and The Saturday Evening Post. Lori teaches creative writing at Mount Royal University in Calgary.
